Mark Mitchell, born at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas on August 31, 1996 to Scott and Caroline Mitchell, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas. Mark is survived by his parents and his older sister, Katie, and the rest of his extended family. Mark spent his early childhood in Dunkirk, Maryland as a cub scout, an altar server at Jesus the Good Shepherd, and avid athlete playing basketball, soccer and baseball. The Mitchell Family then moved to The Woodlands, Texas when Mark was 10. He attended Deretchin Elementary, McCullough Junior High and graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2015. Mark was incredibly active in his school and community as a Troop 204 Eagle Scout, an altar server, usher, Life Teen member, and Food Pantry volunteer at St. Anthony’s, a DECA member, a National Honor Society student, and a chef at the Blue Mug and Brooklyn Bagel Cafe. He played baseball for several years, junior high and high school basketball. He achieved a 3.8 GPA at Texas Tech University as a sophomore accounting major, making the Dean’s list every semester. Mark was a very active member and leader in the Tech Marketing Association, a beloved dorm advisor for upperclassmen, a die-hard Red Raider fan at countless football and basketball games, and attended Camp LEAD program at Tech. He touched many lives of both students and teachers through his kindness, outgoing personality and love for helping others in need. Mark loved the Steelers, the Pirates, and the Spurs. Always surrounding himself with nature, Mark enjoyed hiking, backpacking, fishing, golfing and camping. He aspired to become a CPA and planned to open his own restaurant one day to share his love of cooking. The Vigil Rosary Service will be held Tuesday, February 7th at 6:30PM at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas. The Mass of Resurrection will be held Wednesday, February 8th at 11:00AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in The Woodlands, Texas. The Burial will follow on Thursday, February 9th at 1:00PM at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Fr. Phillip Henning, Mark’s uncle, will preside at all services. The Mitchell Family encourages those attending to wear RED at all services in honor of Mark’s love for his school, Texas Tech, the fire of the Holy Spirit, and the love in Mark’s heart.
