"my dear friend, how i have thought about you many many times over and have missed your presence here...i know you and Philip are cutting it up together! unbelievable a year has passed...just unbelievable! the children and i miss you - know we will see you again, and my daddy. Continued thought & prayers to all your family & loved ones as the 'grief' phase may finish its cycle, but the pain of such a loss never goes away, it just becomes easier to bear - much love to all of you who were touched by this remarkable young man..."

"My heartfelt sympathy to Marcus' family and everyone who was part of his life. Marcus came into our lives with great enthusiasm and vision. His ambitions were fulfilled through his dreams and desires. All who were associated with Marcus watched his talents, ideas and creativity unfold. My husband Philip and I became part of Marcus's dream. We worked together as an incredible team helping make his ideas come to fruition. There was never just a lunch break with Marcus they were brainstorming sessions. Before Philip passed Marcus wrote him an endearing letter that I will always treasure. Marcus was not only a business partner, and friend, he also became part of our family. We shared many wonderful dinners, and holidays with him and we were glad that Marcus wanted to be part of our family. Our grandchildren loved his playful nature and stories he would share. Marcus bought them remote control helicopters and we watched Marcus become one with kids as they flew the helicopters all over the house. Marcus did what he loved doing and I trust we all can be as fortunate in our lives."

"My condolences, surround everyone whose life Marcus made an impact upon. He was a true role model, a kindred spirit who shared his free spirit. He knew nothing was impossible as he loved every aspect of life, and saw the beauty it bestowed, like a child. And as a man his gentle soul made his dreams come true, and those of others who believed in his vision. I say these thoughts, since Marcus became part of our extended family, and I am grateful to have the memories of the times shared together. He brought much joy and laughter to each gathering. Marcus, you are missed, but your legacy endures a lifetime."

"my deepest condolences to all of Marcus' family...i was unable to attend both the wake and the service yesterday, but my thoughts were definitely with you all. I know your loss and pain are deep as Marcus was an exceptional person...he was business partners with my father (Philip Speer) and ultimately became a part of our family. Marcus shared in many holidays and just random family dinners with us. Marcus truly was a one-of-a kind, an original like none other I've seen; he had a creativity that just couldn't be harnessed and it was a real joy to see that creativity in action! Marcus was a great fit at Speer Industries, he brought out some very similar qualities in my father that he hadn't yet been able to express in his business, and for that I am eternally grateful to Marcus. Marcus loved life and his outlook and enthusiasm were contagious; my children enjoyed his assimilation into our family as he just had a magnetic personality that you couldn't escape (and wouldn't want to). We will miss you Mr. Marcus, much love from Michele Speer, Joe III and Abigail....with heavy hearts until we see you again flying high on Glory's side."

"My condolescenses to all of the family, relatives and friends. We will miss your smile, the twinkle in your eyes and that qurky smile. You will always by in my heart. I can see you in the sky flying like a bird. I know that God is holding your hand and as you fly to him.
I met Marcus when David Whelan my son brought him home and said, Is it alright if Marcus lives with us for awhile. I said, Of course and that was for three years. During that time we became very close and he did many things for me. He and David fixed a beautiful gourmet Birthday dinner for me and set the table as if I was at a 5 star restaurant this during their years as waiters. Then one day he came home and I had fallen trying to put a new shower rod and curtain up, there was nobody home and he saved me. Then one he saw that I was overwhelmed and said Come on Mom, Lets go to breakfast. He was like that, very sensitive. Then at another time we couldn't decide whether to bring David's grandma here, so David and Marcus went and spent the summer with her changing about their shifts so someone would always be there. In the end they packed her up and brought her home to me. He was a kind and gentle person. One that it was a privilage to know.
Marcus will always have a special place in my heart and so will all who were touched by his life. We love you Marcus."

"Uncle, I regret never being able to get closer to you. All my life I was told I look, sound and act so much like you. Even as a child I knew of you when grandma had a habit of calling me Marcus first. My first time meeting you was only a few months ago but I already felt like a knew you. You were taken from us far too early, Marcus. You were a brilliant man and a sharp mind. The world is at lost. If I only knew our time was limited, I could have learned so much from you. I love you, uncle."

"Joe and Mischel: Marcus truly was a kind and soft spoken soul. I genuinely admired how he was always so calm, yet engaging in any conversation that was at hand. It is disappointing that he will not have the opportunity to complete his vision for the airpark, but his memory will live on. I, too, went to the site and prayerfully asked our Lord to give both he and your family the comfort and peace that only He can."

"Marcus was a great man, A man of integrity and a man with a vision. It was a pleasure to know Marcus and to be his friend. I have wonderful memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays spent with Marcus where he was part of our family and playing with our children. Marcus would be on the bongos while my dad played the saxaphone and the kids played any instrument they could find. Marcus never let anyone / anything get in the way of his vision or his beliefs. I thank Marcus for being a wonderful business partner with my parents and for his contributions to the vision and success of all their endeavors. Marcus you will forever be remembered in our hearts and memories. My thoughts and prayers to your dad and sisters and all left behind. haron Pastor (Speer) & Family"

"I did not know this young man, but my mother lives in the Lake Waterwheel subdivision very near to the area where Marcus lost his life. I was visiting her shortly before this happened, and Sunday morning went back to visit her. I also walked near the area where his plane went down and said a prayer for him asking that God wrap his arms around him and keep him near. My prayers and thoughts go out to the family...I cannot imagine how they are feeling. God Bless you Marcus."
