Marcus J. Schmitt, 44, died in a plane crash Saturday, September 27, 2014 doing what he loved — flying.
Born August 3, 1970 in Elyria, Ohio to Joseph and the late Leni Schmitt, Marcus was a designer, a pilot, an inventor, a builder, a mentor and all around inspiring spirit. From an early age he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and know-how that was never quenched.
Marcus was always polite and well spoken, patient, considerate, thoughtful, and involved. He has left an indelible mark on all those who were lucky enough to have him in their lives. He was a man like no other.
Marcus is survived by his father, Joseph Schmitt; stepmother, Katherine Frasher-Schmitt; five siblings, Patrizia Gale (Gregory) of Cleveland, Ohio, Kathrine Nicol (Hamish) of Adelaide South Australia, Mischel Schmitt, Joseph and Jillian Schmitt of Cleveland, Ohio; Rachel Donohue and her daughter, Elise Gutierrez whom he loved both very much; three nephews, Brandon Gale, Finnegan Nicol, and Luke Nicol; and niece, Alexandra Gale.
His work can be appreciated by visiting the structures in Houston on 27th Street and Shepherd, on Tidwell between Ella and Shepherd, at Rice University near the stadium, at Lake Water Wheel Estates off the landing strip in Shepherd, Texas, and at CAVOK Airpark in Cleveland, Texas.
A viewing and reception with family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014. A funeral service honoring the life of Marcus will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014. All services will take place at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street in Houston, Texas.
