Obituary of Jacqueline Adele Suggs Menefee
~~Jacqueline Adele Suggs Menefee was born and raised in Houston, Texas. A servant to Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, at age 96, she died peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017 at Houston’s First Baptist Church Chapel, 7401 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wesley Menefee 4 years prior on November 26, 2013, the love of her life for 69 years. She had met her one-and-only sweetheart, Tom, while at Reagan High School. Jackie was a majorette at Reagan and went on to attend U of H. Tom and Jackie married during WWII and, after the war, they settled in Houston and Jackie worked as Tom’s secretary in his homebuilding and lumber yard businesses, Menefee Lumber.
Jackie was a member of the Houston Junior Forum, a ladies volunteer service organization that cared for inner-city kids. She was also an active member of Houston’s First Baptist Church (HFBC). There, she began teaching “College and Career” girls in ‘Sunday School’ which led to their starting of the first HFBC Singles Group where they became the Directors. Jackie was also in charge of the HFBC makeup during Christmas Pageants.
Known as Jackie, Big Red, Mamu, Grande, and Mamma Grande, Jacqueline was a Godly Christian lady who served those in need, especially young people. She was a modest lady, very gracious, and loved to joke around and laugh, and naturally gained the attention of anyone nearby.
Jacqueline is survived by her son, Tom Menefee, Jr., and her daughter, Carole Jensen, who will always cherish the unending love and dedication to her family and her deepest affection for their Dado. Her love and memories continue with granddaughter, Megan Frisa and husband, Matthew, and great-grandchildren, Nathan and Aubrielle Frisa, and Carole’s husband, Rob Jensen. In addition, she was fond of her new extended family, Rob’s son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Alicia Jensen, and the great-grandkids, Tyler and Luke Jensen.
Jackie is missed beyond words, but we can rejoice in knowing that we’ll see her again on the day our Savior calls each of us home.
