Obituary of Vernon Charles Cason, Jr.

Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Born August 20, 1951 to Betty Jean (Portor) Cason and Vernon Cason Sr. in Shreveport, Louisiana, Vernon attended Blessed Sacrament elementary and Notre Dame high school in Shreveport.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.  Vernon was Vice President of Safety at Magnum Staffing in Houston, Texas.

Vernon was preceded in death by his father Vernon Cason Sr.; his grandparents Shirly and Walter Cason, amd Emma Mackey and Wherleen Portor; his uncle Charles Cason and aunt Yvonne Matthieu; and his great uncle Charlie Anderson.

He was a proud father to his son, Colin Anderson Cason, and grandfather to Kyle Reece Cason, and Alannah and Kameron Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his son Colin and family Kristina Montalbo, Kyle, Alannah and Kameron; his mother Betty Cason; siblings Lesha Cason, Allan Cason and Patrick Cason; sisters-in-law Sandra Cason and Denise Cason; nephews Andrian Cason, Cody Cason, Adonis Davidson, Austin Cason and Ashton Cason and niece Caronda Cason Martin; as well as great nephews and nieces, cousins, his former spouse Mary Lee, and many friends, co-workers and fraternity brothers.

He was known to his family as Sonny, Vern to his friends and co-workers, and Papa Sonny to his grandchildren.

Sonny loved movies, SciFi most of all.  He was an avid pro sports fan, especially of Houston teams. If he wasn’t actually at the game, you could bet he was watching it somewhere!
