The world lost a bright light and profoundly talented young man way to soon. Sam will live in our hearts forever and the happy memories and smiles that he brought to everyone’s face. I last saw Sam the end of October for Uncle Johnny’s birthday and John was sitting in the living room looking a little meloncally so I wanted to make him smile. I asked Sam if he would come in the living room and do a silly dance with me without music. Sam didn’t hesitate and with no music playing we acted like goofballs in the middle of the living room. Sam was always the first to offer his help if he saw I needed it. I will miss his tight hugs and loving spirit.I loved him very much and he will be forever missed and never forgotten. My deepest condolences to Scott, Mary, Andrew, Max, Suzanne, and the many others who loved him.

My dear Scott, Mary, Andy, Max and family - my heart is broken in ways which will never mend. Sammy was always angelic to me and amazed me with his ingenuity, patience, compassion and countless talents in music, arts and creations. I loved him so much and cannot fathom what you are going through. I know he is with the angels, I know he is in the arms of our loving God, but only God knows the hole left in our lives which will never be the same. He leaves behind such a legacy of a family, and friend bond of memories almost unheard of for his years. His warm smile, loving soft eyes, genuine hugs and kind soul will remain with me forever. I feel blessed to have had him in my life for the last 8 years, and I always had a special affinity for his angelic presence. I am thankful to have shared so many holidays and special events with this family gracious enough to include me. Know you are in my prayers, not only now, but in the times to come. He may only be present in spirit in the future, but he will be present in all our lives eternally. I love you all so much - like family, and I love you my beautiful Sam.

Sweet sweet Sammy...thank you for all the fun times and all the laughters. I don’t remember a time we spent together when I did not laugh or get scared because you liked scaring me with your reptiles and critters! The first time we met, you forced me to eat slices of lemon and chase them down with slices of apples. My stomach hurt not because it was so sour but because I kept laughing so hard!
I remember bragging about you and Andy to other people because you are so sweet and unlike kids your age, you were never shy to say “I love you” to your mom. Tam always says if he had a son he wished he was like you because you make him very proud. You are so alike in many ways.
I love you sweet Sammy. I promise to be here for your Mom and Andy as always.

I am a friend of Pat Yeargain, Sam’s grandmother. We are colleagues in a theology class at our church, St,. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Austin. I am heartsick about Sam’s death, not just because I love Pat, but also because I spent my life in secondary education, teaching and leading in schools for young people like Sam. We are all diminished by the loss of Sam. I hope you, his family, find some comfort in the knowledge that the ripple effect that Sam has on people who never knew him, never met him has changed us. Like many, my heart is broken. Saying my deepest condolences does not feel like enough. My entire heart and prayers go out to you, and with time and Sammy's angel watching over you, I hope you are able to find peace. I am honored and blessed to have known Sammy. Sammy will be so dearly missed. I close my eyes and I see his smile and remember all the adventures we had when he was little. I remember it was such a big ordeal telling him when I was pregnant with Jaden. I loved Sammy so much...But you know, the whole baby Jesus thing;) I remember us all watching and waiting for Sammy's approval when he held Jaden for the first time and saying he was "ok... for a baby." Like giving him a blessing into our group.
Susie, your boys are so loved.You instilled the silliest, most loving ideations in them... so loved and Sammy had the sweetest and most infectious smile and laugh.
Sammy, thanks to your mama, you always had an unapologetic, unique, and fun way of looking at the world. I just remember laughing with you, Andy, and your Mama. Lots of blankets and snuggly things, adventures, and just love. I wish I was around more, I wish you were around more. I cannot think of a single bad memory or thought of you. You will be dearly missed.
