"Dear Doc Adams:
Please find an enclosed $100 check for the MSHV in honor of my Great Uncle Filip Vick Todaro, Sr., who passed away at age 96 this April 2015 (see this WWII veteran's obituary attached). The best way for me to honor a man who served his family and his country throughout his life is to celebrate that life by helping other veterans.
While I am an U.S. Marine veteran, my Great Uncle Fil was a World War II Army veteran who served in the Pacific. A man of adventure, after spending years helping his family on the farm, one day he and a friend took a walk to see life outside the farming community of Highbank, Texas. After a short time, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Army Air Corps. Uncle Fil always had a smile on his face, rode a motorcycle into his 90s, and never passed up an opportunity to take a drive to the casino to enjoy some gambling. He loved life, and life, and his family, loved him right back!
Throughout my life, my parents have always encouraged me to chase my dreams, seek selfless service, & put others before myselfI have no doubt that sense of adventure and service, in no small part, came as a result of the positive influence my Great Uncle Fil had on my Dad, Joseph B. Lombardo.
To whom much is given, much is expected (Luke 12:48). That verse fits my Great Uncle Phil; he was given many talents & abilities, and he utilized them to better those around him. In honor of a man of the Greatest Generation a man of superb character, compassion & selflessness, this donation is made so that it may help a veteran get on their feet and serve others. God Bless my Great Uncle Fil, your staff & the veterans you are helping at MSHV.
Respectfully-
Vick A. Lombardo"

""Uncle Filip" was always a legend larger than life to my brothers and I. Family visits were always exciting when he was there. He had a smile and wit that livened up the room. He let us learn to drive in his old jeep on the farm, he gave us vintage old coins, he made us laugh. A true character who enjoyed life. Anthony Weido, MD"
