Pilar King Carrigan passed away on February 25, 2021, at the age of 53. Her passing was unexpected, but she is remembered by friends and family as exuberant and larger-than-life; she was a loyal friend, devoted mother, and passionate educator, and she will be dearly missed.

Born in Santa Maria, California, on June 2, 1967, Pilar was the only child of William Garland King and Willie Currin King. She was preceded in death by her father, William King, and survived by her mother, Willie King; her husband, Gary Carrigan; and her children, Izabella Guerrero, Dominic Carrigan, and Sydney Carrigan.

She grew up in League City, TX, and lived in the Houston area most of her life; she graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1985 as a star runner. A lifelong devotee of the arts, she especially loved music and fashion, and brought a creative touch to all of her endeavors.

Pilar wore many hats professionally: at different points she was a model for surf and skateboard apparel, a graphic designer, and an exotic bird trainer, but she truly came into her own as an educator working with special-needs children.

Well-known for her ability to make friends with anyone, Pilar was a fixture in her community. Her smile was infectious and could brighten any room.  No matter the situation, she could always be counted on to make an impression. Cooking was one of her many passions, whether it was making chicken soup for a friend in need, or feeding a whole wedding party. She was the type of person who would always remember your birthday, and would always pick out the most thoughtful gift.

Pilar made it a habit to always be on time, but unfortunately she left us too soon. Her legacy is that she left a lasting mark on her friends and loved ones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman Street in Houston, Texas.

Pilar will be laid to rest at a private graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
