Dear Gaitha, I miss you so my sweet friend! I remember the time we traveled to Corpus Christi by plane for Conference; we had 6 bags and 2 carry-on bags, for 5 days! The luggage attendant asked which leg of our world journey we were on! We laughed and laughed!! I miss your sweet laugh, but I know where you are. Love you dearly! ❤️

For those here who do not know me, my name is Elizabeth and I am Gaitha’s oldest daughter. Writing this eulogy to my mom was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, but it was important to me say some words to honor my mama. On April 20th, I lost my mom, my teacher, my therapist, and my best friend. Most of all, though, my mama was my hero. She was always there when I needed her most and in ways I cannot even begin to describe. Not only that, but my kids lost their amazing Gotty. She valued and treasured her family above all else, and she was there for every milestone in my life as well as my kids’ lives. Through good times and bad, she stuck by us, championing and supporting us every step of the way. My kids have truly been blessed with the most amazing, loving, and caring Gotty. She was, among so many other things, their protector, teacher, and biggest fan. No matter what, my mama did everything in her power to put smiles on her grandchildren’s faces and make sure that they knew just how much she loved them. There are so many memories of my mother that come to mind so it would be next to impossible for me to pick a favorite. While working on this, I searched the meaning of the word "Gaitha" and learned that it means "beautiful". I could not agree more, my mama was beautiful in so many ways. My mama had a laugh that would light up a room. If you heard my mama laughing, you would by nature start laughing. Her laugh was infectious, in a good way. My mom was a very patient and kindhearted woman. A real lady. She cared greatly for every soul on earth – her friends, family, and her students. Some of you may know this, but my mama worked for the Aldine Independent School District for over 30 years in AISD Child Nutrition. Yes, she was the cafeteria ladies in her early years, who loved on her students and wanted to ensure that they had a good meal always. Mama also served as mine and Sunni’s Girl Scout Leader for many years. Times and memories I will always cherish. It was always important to her that everyone around her felt happy and loved. She and my daddy have been married for 48 years. They loved each other deeply and enjoyed traveling and just spending time at their lake house relaxing every chance they got. Most importantly to her was her Faith in God and how she strived to live her life being the Proverbs 31 woman. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church for many years. I am reminded that you can never get as much time with the ones you love as you think you are owed. We did not know mama’s time with us was short, but we are blessed that she was able to spend time with each one of us telling us how much we had meant in her life over these past few months. Mama is with us today in our hearts. I know she is watching us and is with us in spirit. Let us remember mama/Gotty/Gaitha as the carefree and loving person she was and celebrate the life of a great woman as we honor her memory forever. Mama you will always be loved, always be missed, and always be in my heart.

Gaitha welcomed me into her heart and into her home with no hesitation. She shared stories with me about her trip to Italy and although her heart was broken her smile still shined. You earned your wings...when I need a laugh I know where to find you....Jonte Jackson

I have so many great memories of our time together throughout the years. I’ve been so blessed she was part of my life for many years. She has always been there for me in so many ways as she was one of my biggest confidants. I loved her laugh and her sweet kind loving nature. She was such a beautiful person and I’ll always miss her and love her.

How amazing lucky am I that over the pasted six months I was able to share my life again with my Aunt Gaitha. I will miss her smile and her laugh but I will keep following her advise. Kiss Momma for me and tell her how well we are doing. Until I see you again! Love Sheila
