Obituary of Richard Parsons
Richard Read Parsons, 75, passed away on May 19, 2021, at his home in Missouri City, Texas. He was surrounded by family and completely at peace.
Born on July 7, 1945, in Houston, Richard was preceded in death by his parents Thad and Francel, and his brother Chuck. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret “Peggy”; his brother, J.B. and his wife, Lois; his son, Steven and his wife, Michelle; and son, Rick. He will also be dearly missed by those who knew him as Paw-paw, including Lauren and Lindsay Parsons, Mya Tyson, Justin Cantu, and Courtney Wyche and husband Curtis Wyche.
Richard attended St. Christopher’s Catholic School and then St. Thomas High School in Houston, graduating in 1963. He also attended the University of Houston to study mechanical engineering.
Richard always appreciated excellence and craftsmanship. He enjoyed many recreational pursuits that he shared with his family and many friends. He loved shooting sports and was an outstanding marksman, winning many competitions and setting several range records. He loved woodworking and made many special gifts for people he loved. He served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 276 while sons Steven and Rick pursued scouting interests, and devoted many hours and weekends supporting the Boy Scouts. He loved sharing his knowledge with scouts and he taught many skills to any kid who would stop to listen. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He worked as a volunteer to support several local police and fire departments and he was always excited to support the fighting St. Thomas Eagles in many endeavors.
A visitation and recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a Mass of the Resurrection to follow at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 11, 2021 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd. in Sugar Land, Texas. A reception with the family will immediately follow in the Parish Hall.
Richard was a proud, enthusiastic American. His remains will be interred in a private ceremony along with his last retired American flag.
