Obituary of Dennis Joseph O'Connor

Dennis J. O'Connor, age 75, born June 19, 1940 in the Bronx, New York, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015 after a long and courageous fight with heart disease and cancer.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Mary O'Connor; two older brothers, Eugene and Peter; and his grandson, Bryan Gentle.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen O'Connor; sisters, Barbara Liegey and husband Hilaire, Gail Edwards and husband Ray; daughters, Meg Gentle and husband, Kirk, and Beth O'Connor; grandchildren, Kathryn Wallace and husband Michael, Johnny Gentle, Sam Gentle, and Jacob Gentle; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Wallace, as well as numerous beloved members of his extended family.
Dennis graduated from Columbia University and received an MS from Webster University. He dedicated his life to service for our country as a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy and upon military retirement, worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Marietta, GA.
Dennis was an active member of the Atlanta Rowing Club and the LGE Flying Club.
We remember Dennis as a man who loved life fully, defended our country proudly, and taught us that there are no limits to what one can accomplish, no barriers that cannot be overcome, and no adventure that ought not be taken. He will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, Friday, October 30, 2015 at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street, Houston, TX 77007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 31, 2015 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Memorial Park, 6622 Haskell Street, Houston, TX 77007. The Rite of Committal will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors in Arlington, VA.
Donations in memory of Dennis may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
